Mini Grilled Cheese Hawaiian Rolls (Printable)

Sweet Hawaiian rolls grilled with melted cheddar, buttered and pulled into 12 bite-sized savory sandwiches.

# Ingredient List:

→ Bread and Dairy

01 - 12 Hawaiian rolls
02 - 6 slices cheddar cheese, cut in half
03 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

→ Optional Add-Ons

04 - 6 slices Swiss cheese, cut in half
05 - 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
06 - 1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley

# How to Make:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F or heat a large skillet over medium-low heat.
02 - Keeping the Hawaiian rolls intact, slice them horizontally with a bread knife to create a top and bottom layer.
03 - Place the bottom slab of rolls on a cutting board. Arrange cheddar slices, and Swiss if desired, evenly over the rolls. Place the top slab of rolls above the cheese.
04 - Spread softened butter evenly on the top and bottom exterior of the entire roll assembly.
05 - If using a skillet, add the roll slab and grill for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden and the cheese melted. If using the oven, transfer to a baking dish and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until cheese is gooey and tops are golden.
06 - Let cool slightly, then separate into 12 mini sandwiches.
07 - Brush tops with Dijon mustard and sprinkle chopped chives or parsley, if using, before serving.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It transforms simple pantry staples into perfect bite-sized comfort with an almost embarrassing ease.
  • Once you hear that first crunch and gooey pull, you’ll keep making it for every movie night or gathering.
02 -
  • If you rush and crank up the heat, the outside will scorch long before the cheese melts—keep it gentle.
  • Layering cheeses or adding a swipe of mustard were last-minute choices that turned out to be permanent upgrades.
03 -
  • Softened butter spreads more evenly if you use your fingers, not a knife.
  • Pushing down gently with a spatula while grilling gives the rolls just the right amount of crisp.
